Poignant presidential handover in Brazil
There was an emotional handover of power in Brazil, from the country's most popular president, to the country's first ever woman president. Tens of thousands braved the rain in the capital Brasilia to wave goodbye to Lula da Silva and welcome his protégé Dilma Rousseff. Four decades ago Rousseff was a Marxist guerrilla pursued as an enemy of the state. She was jailed and tortured by her military captors. She said 2011 was the beginning of a new era. ...
