In the first game of group play June 26, France defeated Nigeria to earn three points and stay near the top in Group A of the 2011 Women's World Cup.
It's a tough group, with Germany and Canada rounding out the four teams. With Germany considered the strong favorite and Canada expected to emerge, both France and Nigeria needed to win in order to try to upset predictions. France did it, now Nigeria has a very tough road to try to get past group play.
